785,074. Measuring thermal conductivity of gases. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., HARBOURN, C. L. A., and DESTY, D. H. June 9, 1955, No. 16594/55. Class 40 (1). In a cell for measuring the thermal conductivity of a gaseous stream, the stream flows helically round a thermistor. As shown, the thermistor 6 is supported by its connecting wires in a cylindrical chamber formed in a solid copper block. Inlet and outlet passages enter the chamber tangentially at opposite ends to induce a helical flow of the gas. To produce an increased effect similar cells on the same block may be supplied from the same gas stream and may be connected in opposite arms of a Wheatstone bridge. The remaining arms may be constituted by two further cells also in the same block supplied from a standard gas stream to compensate for certain errors.
