730,289. Impregnated electric insulation. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 17, 1952 [March 15, 1951], No. 6836/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. Insulated objects such as coils are subjected to vacuum, immersed at atmospheric pressure in a varnish which does not require oxidation for drying, drained, and baked in an inert atmosphere, or baked, first in air, and then in an inert atmosphere. The insulation to be treated may be organic or inorganic, including mica, asbestos, glass in the form of fibres, cotton, silk, and paper. The varnish may comprise a phenol-, urea-, or melamine-aldehyde resin, or a silicone resin. The inert atmosphere may comprise nitrogen, sulphur hexafluoride, argon, helium, or carbon dioxide.
