611,953. Winding transformer cores. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 14, 1946, No. 14529. Convention date, May 19, 1945. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic core for a transformer &c. is made by winding simultaneously on a former 13 a strip 2 of magnetic material and a narrow strip or thread 11 of cotton or other fibrous material, magnesium &c. of a thermally dispersible nature positioned inwardly from the edges of the strip. After winding, the core is annealed at a temperature above 500‹ C. in a hydrogen atmosphere to remove strain and to decompose the spacing material. The hydrogen may be circulated to sweep out gaseous impurities. The spaces between the layers are then impregnated with a bonding material which is then baked.
