Abstract
A ceramic composition for electric insulators, stated to have a very low coefficient of expansion, is made by burning a mass containing 8-13 per cent MgO, 31-43 per cent A2 O3, and 49-55 per cent SiO2 in the manner ordinarily adopted for insulators. An example is given of a composition of local German clays &c. suitable for the purpose. Specifications 282,402, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic], and 282,403, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to. Iron or other heavy oxide may be added as a flux. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 282,402 and 282,403.
