Abstract

646,277. Insulators. CHARLES, G. R. S. Oct. 11, 1948, No. 26468. [Class 36] An electric insulator comprises a closed loop formed of glass fibres impregnated with a thermo-setting synthetic resin. Such an insulator may support a conductor in which case it is coated with a layer of insulation such as polythene after the conductor has been secured in position. The insulator is made by winding the impregnated glass fibre tape on a former and then causing the resin to set by the application of heat and pressure. The resin may be an unsaturated polyester having cobalt naphthenate incorporated therein as an antiair inhibitant.
