[Class 36.] To provide for expansion of the impregnating compound in a cable comprising a conductor C having impregnated pervious insulation P, such as paper, and enclosed in a lead sheath L, an elastic sheath E which is impervious to the impregnating compound and which is preferably of rubber, such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Du Prene " synthetic rubber, is disposed immediately over the fibrous material P. Metallised capillary reservoirs of the kind described in Specification 340,303 may be provided in the insulation P. The Figure shows two such reservoirs R. Specification 379,704 also is referred to.
