[Class 36] An air-space cable comprises a jute rope a, a lead tube b pressed or moulded over it and coated with a layer c of high conductivity, distance pieces d, a corrugated tube e and a lead sheath k. The tube c comprises a copper tape layer f serving as return conductor, one or more layers g of bitumenized paper and layers h of iron tapes. A thin lead tape may be wound over the layer f and the layer g may be unimpregnated. Instead of the sheath k, the tapes h may be coated with lead or covered with compounded layers of fibrous material. The cable may be armoured. The inner conductor may also be formed in like manner as the outer conductor.
