Abstract
1342426 Coils for dynamo-electric machines ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 27 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 17465/71 Heading H2A [Also in Divisions H1 and H5] A varnish-insulated electrical conductor, for use in a coil of a dynamo-electric machine, is at least partly surrounded by a corona-resistant layer comprising one or two insulating tapes 13, 14 attached to the layer of varnish 11 and running in the longitudinal direction of the conductor. The tape is folded around the conductor, and several such conductors are then bundled together and surrounded by further insulation 25 to form the complete coil, which is placed in a core slot 38. Gaps, if any, between the edges of the tape(s) surrounding each conductor are arranged to overly those sides of the conductor which, in the assembled coil, face adjacent conductors. The corona-resistant tape 13, 14 comprises either (i) mica or glass flakes alone, or (ii) a mixture of such flakes with a linear polymer and/or fibres of cellulose and glass. The tape may be strengthened by (i) applying a glass fibre cloth to one side of the tape; (ii) impregnating the tape with a flexible resin; or (iii) applying a polymer film 26 to the outside of the tape. A resinous binder secures the tape 13, 14 to the varnish 11 and (when used) the film (iii) to the tape. The further insulation 25 surrounding the whole conductor bundle comprises: (i) tape wrapped around the bundle and formed of mica flakes on a paper or glass-cloth carrier, the tape either carrying or being subsequently impregnated with asphalt or an epoxy or polyester resin; or (ii) silicone rubber applied in tape or paste form. The further insulation may itself be wrapped in PTFE tape. Lists of the varnishes, polymers, resins, etc. that may be used are given.
