Abstract

969,668. Laminates. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. March 9, 1962 [March 11, 1961], No. 9093/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] In the production of insulating tape for winding round an electric conductor followed by impregnation with a curable resin, said tape comprising mica attached by a binder to a backing, the binder comprises a curing accelerator for the curable resin. The binder may be 1-10% of the curable resin. The backing may be of paper, matted asbestos, or woven cotton, silk or glass. The mica may be attached as a paper-like sheet or as individual flakes. The curable resin may be an epoxy, alkyd, unsaturated polyester, or phenolic resin, and may be applied in vacuo. The epoxy resin may be prepared from epichlorhydrin and 4,4-dioxidiphenyl-dimethylmethane. It may be mixed with a curing agent, e.g. phenyl glycidyl ether, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, or hexahydrophthalic anhydride. An unsaturated polyester resin may be mixed with cyclohexanone peroxide as curing agent. The accelerator for an epoxy resin may be a polyamide containing free amine groups, diethylene-triamine, triethylenetetramine, diethylaminopropylamine, benzyldimethylamine, or metaphenylenediamine. A polyamide may be applied as a solution in a mixture of butanol and toluene or xylene, the solvent removed at 200‹ C., and moisture removed in vacuo. The accelerator for an unsaturated polyester resin may be cobalt naphthenate or dimethylaniline. The binding agent may contain a non-accelerator, e.g. an alkyd, polyester, or unsaturated polyester resin.
