1,058,117. Insulating and securing windings in electrical machine slots. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 3, 1964 [June 5, 1963], No. 22918/64. Heading H2A. In an electrical machine rotor or stator slot 16 the slot portions 10 of a form-wound coil comprising a conductor or a bundle 15 of conductors 12 wrapped with a plurality of electrically insulating tape or sheet layers 11 held together with a binder which is solid or nearly so at room temperature but softens or becomes fluid upon heating, is made by pressing the wrapping to form a casing which is rigid at room temperature and has a shape approximating that of the slot, applying around the casing a bandage 14 which can shrink or contract, arranging the portion in the slot, and then heating it to the softening temperature of the binder so as to permit bandage shrinkage or contraction to change the casing shape more completely to that of the slot. The individual conductors 12 may be mutually insulated with glass yarn 13 impregnated with an epoxy, alkyd, or phenol resin. The insulating layers 11 may be small split pulped or large mica flakes resinous bound to a paper .or glass fibre backing, or paper, asbestos paper, synthetic, glass, cotton, or silk fibres, fabric sheet or tape. The binder may be an epoxy, polyester, silicone or polyurethane resin, or asphalt. Bandage materials include polyamide, cellulose acetate, rubber, and plasticized polyvinyl chloride.
