Abstract
729,695. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. June 25, 1954 [June 26, 1953], No. 17850/53. Class 36. [Also in Group XXII] A cable having one or more insulated cores 1 is enclosed in a hard metal sheath 4 which is provided on -its outer surface with spaced dimples 5a whose maximum peripheral dimension do not exceed #D/6, where D is the external diameter of the sheath, and with corresponding projections 6a on 'its inner surface. The dimples may be arranged in rows extending longitudinally of the cable and uniformly spaced from each other around the circumference of the sheath, the dimples in adjacent rows being staggered. The circumferential spacing between the rows may be from #D/6 to #D/10 and the spacing between adjacent dimples in a row may be about D/2. The aggregate area of the dimples per unit length of the sheath may be between one half and one fifth of the total surface area. The dimples may be circular, elliptical or generally oblong. A machine for producing the dimples in the sheath is also described (see Group XXII).
