727,931. Electrode furnaces. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY & CIREY. Feb. 10, 1953 [Feb. 11, 1952], No. 3766/53. Class 39 (3)... [Also in Group XII] In a glass-making furnace of the tank type heated by submerged electrodes, convection currents are produced in the molten bath transversely of the glass flow, by disposing two electrodes 1 and 2 through one wall and one electrode 5 through the opposite wall at the same or different levels. Modifications show the use of two superposed electrodes on one side only, Fig. 2 (not shown), and one electrode disposed normally of one wall with two electrodes disposed obliquely of the opposite wall, Fig. 3 (not shown). The electrodes extend into the furnace for a distance less than half the width of the both.
