Abstract

380,679. Electrode furnaces. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Hartford-Empire Co. ; 333, Homestead Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Jan. 4, 1932, No. 202. [Class 39 (iii).] The internal surface of a glass melting tank is composed of refractory material which is free from joints extending- in an unbroken line parallel to the path of the current between the electrodes 1, 3, at least in that part of the furnace wherein current is flowing. The tank may be constructed from blocks arranged in staggered relationship or the bottom may be provided with a monolithic lining. Alternatively blocks are used of such length that they extend completely across the path of current flow.
