Abstract

793,503. Glass-melting apparatus. ZEISSSTIFTUNG, C., [trading as JANAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. July 13, 1956 [July 16, 1955], No. 21735/56. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XXIII] In the manufacture of glasses having one or more components, the initial materials of the glass are introduced into the interior of a flame, preferably together with the oxidizing gases, through the interior of a burner so that they are melted within the flame and the molten glass is collected by a preferably rotating member arranged underneath the burner. A burner 1 is supplied with hydrogen through an outer tube 2 and oxygen through the inner tube 3, the initial materials of the glass being supplied with. the oxygen so that they pass to the hottest part of the flame 4 and the molten glass drops or flows into a rotating collecting member 5. The temperature of the surface of the member 5 is regulated by separate heating of the member 5 as by electricity, by adjustments of the distance of the member 5 from the base 6 of the burner 1 and by transverse movement of the member 5 within the housing 7 of the burner. The walls of the housing 7 may be movable also.
