Divided out of 500,803. [Class 39 (iii)] In a glass furnace with a longitudinal flow, horizontal convection currents are obstructed by an electrode or electrodes, at least one of which is placed near the bottom of the tank, which create a hot zone extending across the tank and thus produce rising currents of glass as well as constituting a mechanical obstruction. Three horizontal and transverse electrodes 1 of different polarity may be provided. In a modification, they are of the same polarity and co-operate with another electrode. Instead of horizontal electrodes vertical electrodes extending transversely may be used. Specifications 489,207 and 500,803 are referred to.
