Abstract

727,216. Drying systems. AEBI & CO. AKT.-GES., R. July 10, 1953 [June 6, 1953], No. 19278/53. Class 34 (2). In a method of drying in tunnel driers having a number of successive zones 2 and transverse air flow the dew point of the air in a preheating zone 1 is continuously adapted to the temperature of the articles being dried to prevent condensation thereon, an air current is produced and circulated in each zone of which air current part is drawn off and replaced by fresh air or circulating air and part is passed to the next zone, the direction of the air current is the same throughout the zones but is periodically reversed and the dried articles are cooled in a zone 3. The preheating zone 1 has a separate fan 12 and air heater 13 and the mixture of ambient air and moist air from the first zone is continuously modified by means of flaps 14, 15 controlled by a time switch (not shown). Each chamber of zones 2 has an independent air circulating installation including a fan 8, heater 10 and flaps 9a for placing the chamber in communication with a fresh air duct 9. The direction of circulation may be changed by reversal of flaps 6 and louvres 7 and the flap 9a and heater 10 may be controlled by hygrostats and thermostats. The cooling zone 3 has a fan 17 and the blowing direction may be reversed by reversal of flaps 18.
