Abstract

1318875 Drying ceramic ware G W SHUFFLEBOTTOM 26 Aug 1970 [22 Aug 1969] 41876/69 Heading F4G Ceramic ware is loaded on to the hollow shelves 15 of a rotary structure 11 which is divided radially into sections and is mounted on a vertical shaft 12 rotated in step-by-step manner, and is dried by hot air blown from inlet ducts 20A, 20B each having an independent damper adjustable so that the temperature varies around the enclosing casing 10, part of the hot air being removed through exhaust ducts 29 (having independent dampers) for recirculation and part being exhausted to atmosphere by a fan 30. Two sections 14A, 14B of the structure 11 are visible in Fig. 1 through an unloading and loading aperture in the casing 10. Each of the hollow shelves 15 has air holes in its underside to direct hot air on to the ware on the shelf below. Air is drawn via exhaust ducts 29 from the space 28 by a fan 21 and is heated in a steam heat-exchanger 23 and fed to the inlet ducts 20A (just after the loading station) at 100‹ F.; further air drawn from the space 28 by a fan 22 is heated in a further heat-exchanger 23 and fed to the inlet ducts 20B at 220‹ F.; the ware is allowed to cool as it approaches the unloading station. Diffusers are fitted in the outlets of the inlet ducts 20A, 20B.
