Abstract

614,376. Drying ceramic ware. APEX CONSTRUCTION, Ltd., PECK, G. C. A., and PECK, W. C. July 12, 1946, No. 20965. [Class 34(ii)] Ceramic ware, such as plates, cups, &c., is dried by passage through a cabinet 4 from a loading point A to an unloading point E, the cabinet enclosing a pre-heating zone B, and drying zones C, D. The plates, &c., are conveyed by a belt or chain fitted with trays 8, the cabinet having baffles 5, 6 and 7, end partitions and dampers, not shown, for directing the air streams to their respective zones, and a lower tray-drying zone F. Admitted air is passed by fans over a heating coil within the cabinet and horizontally through zone F then via the rear of the cabinet to zone D, after which all or part of it is re-heated and passed horizontally through zone C and finally through preheating zone B. A portion of the air may then be permitted to escape through an exhaust damper, the remainder being recirculated with fresh air through zones F and C. By adjustment of the fan speeds and the temperature of the steam or other heating coils, the air stream in each zone is controlled as regards temperature, velocity, and humidity.
