Abstract
726,795. Valves. MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd. July 21, 1953 [July 23, 1952], No. 18616/52. Class 135. In a valve more especially for vacuum apparatus the actuating stem 18 is sealed where it passes through a bearing 14 in a cover-plate 11 by a round-section packing ring mounted in a chamfer or groove 16 and pressed by a plate 19 into engagement with the stem. A sealing ring 36 within a groove in the stem passes into the bearing 14 to form a seal when the valve is fully open, so that the packing ring 17 may be removed and replaced without loss of vacuum. The closure member 30, which is secured to a head 43 of the stem by a plate 44, is held open by engagement of a pin 35 on the stem with a fixed hook 37. Closure of the valve, after the stem has been pushed inwardly to engage a threaded part 25 at the upper end thereof with a threaded boss 21 on the plate 19, is effected by rotation of a hand-wheel 24. The valve may, alternatively, be of the kind described in Specification 726,796.
