Abstract

736,486. Valve seats. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Dec. 1, 1953 [Dec. 11, 1952], No. 33316/53. Class 135. The seat for the obturating member 7 of a high pressure valve is provided in a plug 2 which is closed at one end and open at the other, the obturating member entering through the open end. A sleeve 8 surrounds the plug and has apertures 10 registering with corresponding apertures in the side wall of the plug. Leakage past the plug and the sleeve is prevented by asbestos fibre and graphite packings 11, 12 which are compressed when a cap 3 is screwed down. The upper part of the plug passes through the cap, and the plug is held in position by a nut 15 which is screwed down on the plug and into engagement with the cap. Relative rotation between the plug and the sleeve is prevented by a pin 16.
