Abstract

701,026. Valves. FORTUNE, R. Aug. 15, 1951 [Sept. 22, 1950], No. 30170/52. Divided out of 700,985. Class 135 A valve comprises a follower plate 26, Fig. 1, fastened centrally to a diaphragm 17 and closure member C by a screw 27, a stem 42 for operating the closure member, and a coupling between the stem and follower plate to prevent rotation of the stem. The follower plate is prevented from turning by engaging vanes 55 in a bonnet B, and the stem is movable axially by a nut 62<SP>1</SP> rotatable by a handwheel 64. The coupling consists of a male jaw 44, Fig. 5, on the end of the stem engaging a female jaw 40 on the follower plate. A flange 43 of the stem transmits operating thrust to the closure member through either the upper surface 51 of the plate or the underside 54 of a cap 45 screwed to the plate. The jaws engage each other loosely, and the surface 51 is spherically formed, thus permitting radial adjustment of the closure member and diaphragm. The handwheel 64 may be replaced by pneumatic, mechanical or electric solenoid means for rotating the nut. Specification 652,564 is referred to.
