In continuous cycle absorption systems having a heating tube 1, a concentric boiler 3 and a liquid-heat exchanger 6, strong liquor flows from the inner pipe 8 of the exchanger 6 to the pump 9 through a pipe 10 which is of greater crosssectional area than the pump 9 so as to provide a reaction column for the pumping action. Pipe 10 is J-shaped and the pump is connected to the bottom of the vertical leg so that the curl 10a of the pipe can serve as a collecting chamber for impurities in the system.
