558,338. Refrigerating. AKTIEBOLAGET ELEKTROLUX. Aug. 31, 1942, No. 12228. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1941. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-In a continuous-cycle inert gas system a body of liquor is disposed below the level of liquid in the absorber and is maintained at constant level by overflow arranged above the absorber level, whereby rapid starting after an idle period is facilitated. The body of liquor may be stored in one limb 111 of an inverted U-tube, of which the other limb 112 forms a generator welded to a flue tube 110. Strong liquor from an absorber vessel 116 flows through a conduit of a liquor heat exchanger 120 to an auxiliary pumping pipe 122 welded to the flue and is discharged into the store in the limb 111 as long as the pump 122 is in operation. The usual liquor circulating pump 114, also welded to the flue, raises liquor from the store to the top of the generator and weak liquor leaves the generator by the inner conduit of the heat exchanger at above the level of the lower end of the pump pipe 114. Vapour from the generator passes into the upper part of the limb 111, which serves as a rectifier and which may be provided with bafflles 123, and passes through an outermost jacket 124 of the heat exchanger for further rectification before passing by pipe 126 to the usual condenser. Condensate from the jacket 124 is led by a branch 125 to the store of liquid. In a modification the vapour flows through the jacket of the interchanger in counterflow to any condensate formed therein. The rectifier limb may be in heat conduction with the flue.
