Abstract

468,651. Refrigerating. TRIGGS, W. W. (Allyne International, Ltd.) March 10, 1936, No. 7190. [Class 29] Absorption machines.-In an intermittent absorption refrigerating-machine comprising a generator-absorber 5, evaporator 22, and condenser 28, a secondary generator 36 is provided having a portion thereof in heat transfer relation with the primary generator 5, and a drain conduit 34 connects this secondary generator with the evaporator 22. The drain conduit is provided with an enlarged portion 33 variation of the size of which will vary the rate at which pressure builds up therein and thus varies the periods at which a siphon is formed which returns liquid from a sump 25 in the evaporator 22 to the secondary generator 36. The latter is connected to the main generator by a U-tube 37 and may be provided with a dome into which the drain pipe 34 enters. The drain back of liquid takes place during the early part of the heating cycle as when the liquid in the generator 36 falls below the end of pipe 34 the pressure equalizes at both ends of pipe 34 and the drain stops. During the generating step liquid and gas circulate through the condenser receiver 28 and its cooling coils 30. When the absorption step begins the pressure in the condenser drives liquid up to the evaporator. Vapour from the generator 5 passes through a pipe 10 to a liquid trap 14, a rectifier 16 and thence through the evaporator 22 to the condenser.
