Abstract

458,836. Refrigerating. EWART, J. H., HAWES, W. B., and EWART & SON, Ltd., 346, Euston Road, London. June 20, 1935, Nos. 17768/35 and 17361/36 (divided out of 459,051). [Class 29] Absorption systems.-In a continuouscycle system with inert gas circulating by gravity between the absorber 4 and evaporator 3, a portion only of the inert gas is circulated through the evaporator, the other portion being byepassed. The inert gas (hydrogen) rises from the absorber through a conduit 23, is heated by hot vapour from the generator 1 in a vertical exchanger 24, 19, cooled in a conduit 25, and then delivered through a nozzle 26 to induce a flow of mixed vapour and hydrogen from the upper part of the evaporator, where it is in counterflow to the liquefied refrigerant supplied from the condenser 2 through a U-seal pipe 22. The generator comprises pipes 5 connected between headers 6, 7, located in a heated flue 9. The mixture of evolved vapour and liquid from the upper header passes into a centrifugal separator 10, whence the vapour passes to the condenser and liquid to a sump 15, and a further pipe 16 rising through the flue. This riser is connected with another separator 17 whence the vapour passes through the exchanger pipe 19 back to the first separator 10 and liquid to a pipe 21 of the usual liquor heatexchanger between the absorber and the generator. The evaporator and absorber may be of tubular form instead of the drum form shown.
