723,795. Permanent magnet machines. JONES & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., W. Jan. 7, 1953 [Jan. 22, 1952], No. 1797/52. Class 35. In a motor alternator, the alternator rotor 8 carries two rectangular permanent magnets 9 held in spaced parallel relationship by two laminated polepieces having segmental shaped parts 13 which define at the centre of the rotor a tunnel surrounding the shaft 4 to which they are secured by two non-magnetic end rings 15, the length of the air gap 19 between the rotor shaft 4 and the pole shoes 13 being such that the leakage flux is approximately equal to the useful flux.
