723,470. Spinning and twisting machines. T. M. M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. Aug. 24, 1953 [Sept. 5, 1952], No. 22377/52. Class 120 (2). A spinning or twisting machine has the supply of material to be processed located at a lower level than the spinning or twisting elements, the thread drawing or advancing elements being intermediately located and the spindles suspended in a substantially vertical position and inverted with respect to the conventional arrangement. In a machine for spinning cotton yarns directly from slivers, the slivers are drawn from cans A, pass through drafting apparatus B and lappet-guides G to yarn packages P on spindles H. Traveller rings are carried by reciprocating rails N. A single drafting apparatus may serve both sides of the machine, in which arrangement the two rows of spindles may be close together to provide a narrow machine. A woollen spinning machine described has condenser bobbins mounted on rotating rollers located slightly above floor level, from these material is passed through twist tubes and reciprocating balloon control rings to a ring and traveller device and the yarn package. Guards fixed along the outer edges of the ring rails protect operatives from injury from broken travellers. The Provisional Specification states that the spindles may be horizontal or arranged at some angle between horizontal and vertical. Specification 706,054 is referred to.
