Abstract
1,222,339. Open end spinning. _ BARBERCOLMAN CO. 18 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 8712/69. Heading D1D. In an open end spinning machine fibres 12 are fed to a cylindrical, perforated wall 21 mounted in a cup 24 to be rotated, a nipper element 14 is mounted to press the fibre band formed against wall 21 and to move relative ,to the wall and the forming thread 89 is drawn away from the wall about the trailing end 88 of the nipper element. As shown the nipper 14 is mounted on a head 65 carried by a hollow spindle 72 passing through a hollow spindle 27 which carries the cup 24. These two spindles are driven by toothed belts, see Figs. 1 and 10 not shown, with an adjustable speed relationship. The head 65 is provided with a narrow slot 78 through which the forming yarn 89 travels to the curved upper end 77 of spindle 72. A sector of the perforated wall 21 adjacent the region to which the fibres are delivered is enclosed by a suction hood 52, see also Figs. 1 and 2 not shown, to assist in the laying of the fibres. In Fig. 1 not shown the fibre in the form of roving is pulled from packages (40) by rollers (41) whence it passes to a drafting zone, the delivery rollers 43 of which feed it to the spinning chamber. The rollers (15) to which the yarns passes on leaving the spinning chamber are preferably driven at a high speed than that at which the yarn leaves the wall .21 so that the forming yarn is drafted. To initially thread the fibre band through the lower part of the device a flexible threading up tool, see Fig. 8 not shown, can be fed up the spindle 72, along the surface 79 to the wall 21, entwined with the fibre band on wall 21, withdrawn to break the continuous fibre band and further withdrawn through spindle 72. The withdrawn end can then be removed from the tool and threaded up to the package winding arrangement.
