Abstract

722,525. Stud-and-socket fasteners. FERNBERG, E. B., and FERNTOL PATENTS, Ltd. Oct. 24, 1952 [Nov. 20, 1951], No. 27263/51. Class 44. A fastener for securing together two members, one of which is formed with an aperture, comprises a single strip of spring metal having its grain running approximately longitudinally thereof, sheared through longitudinally over a portion of its length to form to longitudinal portions one of which is bent about parallel transverse lines to form a U-shaped snap engaging spring member 14 and the other of which 12 has its ends bent about transverse lines to form prongs 10, 11 directed out of the general plane of this portion on the side thereof opposite the spring member, the U-shaped spring member comprising two limbs 16, 17 which from the closed end of the U, are directed outwardly and then either inwardly or in parallel relationship and finally outwardly to form a pair of feet and the inwardly directed or parallel portions of the limbs diminishing in width from the outwardly directed portions towards the feet. The device is used for fastening a metal and fabric weatherstrip to a motor car door, the prongs 10, 11 passing through apertures in the metal backing being clenched inwardly into the covering fabric. The spring member 14 engages a circular aperture in the car door and has bevelled portions 21, 22 or a notch to prevent its easy withdrawal.
