Abstract

684,098. Fastenings. PERNBERG, E. B., and FERNTOL PATENTS, Ltd. Oct. 13, 1950 [Oct. 20, 1949; Nov. 16, 1949], Nos. 27018/49 and 29385/49. Class 44 A fastener, particularly adapted for securing beading to a panel, comprises a strip of spring metal bent to U-shape, and having, in each limb, portions cut away to leave an arm which can twist and which is formed, at a point where substantial twist can occur, with an outwardly directed prong. One or both limbs of the U may be formed also with a tooth or teeth directed inwardly and towards the base of the U. In the form shown in Fig. 3 and 4. the limbs of the U-shaped fastener are cut away to leave prongs 27, 28, and a slot 22 cut in the base of the U to form arms 33, 34 which can twist, and from which the prongs 27, 28 extend. These prongs may be pointed. A retainer 35, having a rectangular opening 41 through which the body of the fastener is adapted to pass until retained by flanges 31, 32, Fig. 3. The retainer, with the fastener inserted, is secured to a panel by means of prongs 38-40, Fig. 4, passed through the panel and clinched over. Fig. 7 shows a modification formed with teeth 51 bent inwardly and directed towards the base of the U, and used as shown in Fig. 8 to attach a beading 59 of C-section to a rubber strip 55 which has an insert of harder rubber 57.
