[Class 89 (ii)] [Also in Group X] Relates to a combination of a fastener, a beading of channel C or like section and a panel, and consists in providing, in the combination, a fastener having an elongate body engaged behind the flanges of the beading and depending from the body, spaced pliable arms which protrude transversely of the beading from between the flanges, pass through an aperture in the panel and are bent to hold the fastener and beading to the panel. A staple 35, Fig. 6, is produced from a blank of the shape shown in Fig. 2 by bending up the legs 40 at the necks formed by the shoulders 38. These shoulders are inclined to centre the staples in the channel 30 which has a closed end 48 but the flanges 31 are cut away at 49 to permit the introduction of the staples as shown in Fig. 6. The head of the staple is bowed so that it is a friction fit in the channel for retention in the required position to pass through slots or a hole in the trim panel 34, Fig. 7, for clinching at 46. The taper at 42 causes the ends of the legs to tend to bend over at a point below the surface of the panel so securing a tight fixing. In modifications the legs are of uniformly reduced width but are weakened as by the provision of holes or notches at the points at which bending is desired. Various forms of head are illustrated in some of which longitudinal strengthening ribs are embossed. In one form the legs 92, Fig. 22, are formed at the sides of the head.
