654,332. Stud and socket fastenings. BIELKOWICZ, P. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29239. '[Class 44] In a cowling or like fastener, when a stud 1, Fig. 1, is pressed downwardly the winged and bevelled end of its extremity 6 expands a pair of spring abutments 9, and on rotation of the stud its chamfered side faces 7 compress the abutments 9 until they engage opposed recesses in the neck of the stud A plate 10, riveted at 11, Fig. 2, to one of the parts 12 to be united, is formed with inturned flanges having a pair of shoulders 15, which limit the rotation of the extremity 6 of the stud, and its base is apertured at 13 to pass the stud therethrough. The spring wire forming the abutments 9 is held by the bent, shorter ends 16, of plate 10. To retain the stud 1 in an aperture in the other part 5 to be united, a split washer 17 is provided whose initially upturned ends are flattened when the washer is in position. In a modification, the stud extremity 6 is provided with a centreing nose or pin 18, Fig. 7, which engages an aperture. in a trough 19 secured below the plate 10.
