Abstract
586,720. Fasteners; hinges. DZUS, W. Jan. 17, 1944, No. 880. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] A fastening device applicable as a pivot for shears &c. comprises a stud 29 extending through the blades 20, 21 of the shears and having a grooved end 30 that engages a resiliently mounted crossbat 38 mounted in a cap 24. A recess 32 is formed in the grooved end of the stud to prevent unintentional release. The crossbar may form a part of a spring having arms 37 the ends 36 of which are attached to the cap. In a modification the crossbar forms the diametral connection of a double helical spring. Fig. 10 shows an arrangement where the crossbar 43 slides in slots 47 in the cap and is pressed upwards by two annular springs, the lower spring 50 has projections 53 that enter the slots 47 and the spring 49 has projections 52 that are bent to locate the crossbar. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 15, a bar 64 is resiliently carried by coils 66 attached to a plate 63. Specification 414,290 is referred to.
