Abstract

1,185,680. Stud fastenings. AIR-LOG Ltd., W. C. HILL, W. H GREEN and H. J. HUNT. 27 June, 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 58908/67. Heading E2B. A releasable stud fastening comprises a hollow pin 10 having an enlarged head 12 and a tapered end 11 slotted at 14 to receive a resilient wire latching member 15, the latching member comprising arms 16, 17 which are joined at their root ends by a U-portion 18 and have inturned ends 20 passing through transverse bores 21 to engage an end portion 24 of a plunger 22 slidable within the pin 10, which end portion has a tapered portion 23, the arrangement being such that the resilience of the member 15 biasses the arms 16, 17 radially inwardly towards the axis of the pin, so that when the exposed end 28 of the plunger 22 is depressed manually against the action of a spring 29 the tapered portion 23 moves opposite the ends 20 and allows the member 15 to contract wholly within the compass of the pin, release of the end 28 causing expansion of the latching member 15 to the position shown. By this means the pin can be used for locking two or more parts together after being passed through aligned holes in the parts, or may be similarly used as a shackle or pivot pin.
