To avoid undue heat transmission from the ex haust gases of a two-stroke engine cylinder to a finned aluminium or other light alloy cylinder body 2<SP>1</SP> cast onto a steel or cast-iron liner 1<SP>1</SP>, a sheet metal line] 41 is provided in, and witl its exterior surface suitable disposed relative to the bore of, an exhaust conduit 31 in the body 21. The liner 41 may loosely fit the conduit 31, when it may be positioned before the body 2<SP>1</SP> is cast if its outer surface is treated to resist adhesion during casting. As shown, the liner 4<SP>1</SP> is spaced from the conduit 3<SP>1</SP> by annular liner projections 6, 7.
