Abstract
721,445. Electrolytic pickling. MAG. NESIUM ELEKTRON, Ltd. June 13, 1952 [July 4, 1951], No. 15857/51. Class 41. A casting of magnesium base alloy is subjected with its moulding contaminants thereon to anodic treatment in an aqueous solution of ammonium fluoride (NH,F or NH 4 F.HF), the weight of salt being at least 2 per cent that of water; the treatment may be continued until current flow is substantially stopped automatically. The ammonium fluoride may be present up to the limit of solubility. The electrolyte may also contain ammonia solution (s.g. 0.88) in amount 5-15 per cent of the weight of water; it may also contain minor quantities of alkali metal fluorides or of other salts such as sulphates, nitrates. borates and phosphates. Alternating or direct current may be employed.
