Abstract
721,277. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. JENNINGS, G. M: Aug. 11, 1952. [Aug. 10 1951] No. 18922/51. Class 102 (2). [Also in Group VI] Liquid e.g., milk preserved by oxygen under pressure in a container 1, Fig. 4, capable of withstanding a pressure greater than ten atmospheres is forced by said oxygen pressure up a tube 6, Fig. 3, sealed at a joint 5 to a plug 4, past a piston valve 14, on unseating the same from the lower end 19 of an open-ended sleeve 10, along the neck 7 of the tube 6, the open end of the plug 4 and through a pipe 31 to a conventional tap 32. The valve 14 is carried by a guided spindle 11 so as to be slidable in a portion 20 of the tube 6 and seat on the end 19 of the sleeve 10 which is itself sealed in the tube 6 by a packing 10b. Unseating of the valve 14 is effected after removing a cap 8 by depressing the spindle 11 by means of a spring-biased spindle 26 which may be secured in a suitable position by compressing a resilient packing 29 by a nut 28.
