Abstract

1280675 Screwing apparatus SCOVILL MFG CO 20 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 26473/69 Heading B3N [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for opening and closing a valve 24 in a pressure vessel to evacuate or admit fluid comprises a control rod 15 mounted in a housing 11 which engages a sealing core 25 for removal from the valve to connect the vessel through the housing to a side part 32. A threaded, rotatable captive sleeve 20 couples the housing 11 to the valve stem 23. The rod 15, which has a knob 28, is axially slidable and rotatable within the housing 11 and has a forked end 19 bearing a resilient gripping ring 31. The rod 15 is pushed along the housing bore 12 until the fork 19 engages a core bridge 29 and a head 30 of the depressing pin of the valve core 25 is forced through the ring 31 which grips the pin. The valve core is unscrewed by rotation of the rod by means of the knob 28 and withdrawn along the bore 12 when the rod is pulled back, allowing pressurized fluid to be admitted to or withdrawn from the vessel, connected to the valve 24, through a hose coupled to the side tube 32.
