Abstract

589,771. Sealing gas mains. PASS & CO., Ltd., E., and COOKE, F. April 4, 1945, No. 8260. [Class 99 (ii)] A locating device, Figs. 5 and 7, for locating an inflatable bag f in a gas main g, has a handle a and a stem containing the forks b and a slot d through which the inflating tube f<1> is threaded, as shown, and pulled tight to locate the junction of the tube and bag in the crutch of the forked legs b approximately at the centre of the main. The length of the stem from the base to an inclined shoulder e which engages the inside of the insertion hole g' is greater than that of the diameter of the main; and as the base of the stem is pointed towards the pressure side of the main the gas pressure on the bag forces it to butt against and lock the device in the main. In a modification for use in mains of small diameter the slot d is omitted and the inflating tube taken down the side of the stem into the crutch of the fork as before.
