Abstract

928,736. Percussive tools. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. Jan. 20, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 2037/60. Class 124. A percussive drill comprises a drill piston, and a water duct extending from the back-head, through the piston, to a duct in the steel shank, the end of the tube in the back-head being connected to a piston defining a pressure chamber on the side remote from the drill piston in which water pressure urges the other end of the tube into contact with the steel shank. As shown, water under pressure enters a chamber formed above a piston 5 which is connected to a tube 6 extending through the tool and ending in a flexible portion 14, the end of which enters the water duct in a steel 10. The pressure of water on the piston 5 maintains the end of the tube 14 in water-tight connection with the steel, but, if desired, a spring 9 may be inserted in the chamber to augment the water pressure.
