A tubing anchor comprises a body 11 having a fluid passage 25, a lateral opening 18, the body communicating with the passage, a gripping member 20 in the opening and movable by the pressure of fluid in the passage into engagement with a well conduit C, a retaining member 31 movable laterally on the body and engageable with the conduit, and compression springs 28, 29 engaging the members to urge the member 20 towards the axis of the body. The gripping members may be arranged in two circumferential rows.
