Class 138(1) In a device for sterilizing bottles, including a supply pipe 12 for sterilizing liquid and a spray tube 14 through which the liquid is adapted to be sprayed into the inside of a bottle 21 adapted to be disposed vertically by its mouth over the upper end of the the tube 14, the spray tube 14 is vertically movable relative to the supply pipe 12 and is secured to and surrounded by a cupshaped member 17 adapted to enclose the mouth of the bottle, the member 17 being provided with an overflow discharge means 18, 19 disposed above the mouth of the bottle such that the member 17 is filled with liquid up to the level of the overflow means 18, 19. The supply pipe 12 for liquid under pressure is connected by a screw cap 11 to a head 10 fixed to a frame by a holder 13. The tube 14 which is slidable in the head against the urge of a spring 23 has a hole 15 at its lower end and surrounding the tube 14 within the cup 17 is a resilient base member 22 provided with a diametrical groove 22a. The overflow means comprises a pipe 18 on the cup, connected to a drain hose 19. A packing ring 20 is provided in the cup to engage the neck of a bottle. When the bottle is depressed on the tube 14, the hole 15 is uncovered and the liquid sterilizes the interior of the bottle and fills the cup to the level of its overflow so that the bottle mouth is also treated by the liquid. On release of the bottle the tube 14 rises and a sealing ring 16 prevents leakage of liquid.
