Abstract
823,400. Filling milk bottles ; stoppers. ECREMEUSES MELOTTE S. A. June 7, 1956 [June 7, 1955], No. 17700/56. Classes 125(2) and 125(3). Apparatus for filling milk bottles comprises a milk churn or like container 1 provided with an orifice 2 at the lowest point of its concave base and a closure device 3 adapted to move under gravity into position to close the orifice, and a removable nozzle device E secured to the container around the orifice and which, when a milk bottle is applied to the nozzle displaces the closure device 3 and allows milk to flow into the bottle. As shown in Fig. 3, secured to the exterior of the container 1 about the orifice 2 is a threaded ring 4 to which either the nozzle E or a cap may be screwed. The nozzle has a depending hollow conduit on which slides telescopically the part 6<SP>2</SP> carrying a central rod 6. On applying the bottle to the nozzle the rod 6 is raised and displaces the closure device 3 which may be in the form of a stainless steel or rubber covered ball. A preferred arrangement of the apparatus is shown in Fig. 4, in which churns 1 are placed on a platform 8 supported on adjustable legs 9 on a table 11. A cranked rod 14 causes the bottles to be raised into contact with the nozzles E. To sterilize air entering the churn during the bottling process a lid 26 is provided having a closure plug 18 in which is set a filtering pad 19, held in position by a grid 20 which is itself held in position by a rubber ring. An air pasage is at 23 and the space between the passage and the filtering pad is filled with deodorizing material e.g. wood charcoal.
