Abstract

720,959. Hinges. CARLSTROM, C. L., and JONSSON, B. L. May 18, 1953. No. 13851/53. Class 65 (2). A hinge comprises a top flap 1 having a socket 2, a bottom flap 3 having a socket 4, and a hinge pin having a cylindrical top portion 6 received in the socket 2 and a non-cylindrical portion 8 detachably received in a corresponding- ly shaped portion of the socket 4, the socket 2 being provided at its lower end with a side opening 12 of a width corresponding to the thickness of the portion 6 and of a length less than that of portion 6, and the hinge pin being provided below the portion 8 with a cylindrical portion 9 of less cross section than that of the portion 8 to form with the latter a shoulder 8a. A plug 10 is screwed into socket 4 against the end of portion 9 to effect axial adjustment of flap 1. A door secured to a pair of flaps 1 is mounted on flaps 2 secured to the frame by first positioning the top hinge pin so that the shoulder 8a rests upon the top end of socket 4, and then engaging the top socket 2 with the portion 6 of the top hinge pin. The portion 6 of the bottom hinge pin is then passed through the slot 12 in the bottom socket 2, and the shoulder 8a of the top hinge is disengaged by means of a slight push to enable the door to drop into its hinged position.
