Abstract

984,798. Window stays; hinges. TENSILE PRODUCTS Ltd. June 28, 1963 [April 2, 1962], No. 12616/62. Heading E2F. A window stay comprising two arms 15, 18, which are pivoted together at 19, and each of which is pivoted at its other end to a part 10, 11, respectively, secured to the sash frame 8 and fixed frame 9 of the window, is characterised in that the arm 18 is channel-shaped with substantially parallel flanges 23, the arm 15 is adapted to fold into the channel when the window is closed, and the arms are arranged to pass "over-centre" in both the closed and open positions of the window so that relative swinging movement has to be applied to the arms to release the sash. Preferably the arms and the parts 10, 11 are formed of nylon and the pivot pins 17, 19 and 25 of metal. The arm 15 may be detachably pivoted between the lugs 14 of the part 10 by means of the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, in which the pivot pin 29 has two small projections 30 at one end and a knurled manipulating knob 37 secured by a pin 38 at the other. The projections 30 engage in a screwthread in a hole 31 in one of the lugs 14. To detach the arm the pin 29 is first turned until the projections leave the screwthread and enter a circular recess 36 at one end of the hole 34 in the arm. The pin is then rotated to bring the projections into register with two axial slots 35 through the hole 34, after which it can be withdrawn clear of the hole to free the arm. In this arrangement the pivot pin 29 and its associated parts may also be formed of nylon.
