A toilet seat 1 and cover 2 are pivotally supported by mountings 8 bolted to the toilet bowl. Inwardly projecting pivot pins 14 on the mountings have flats 14a one of which engages a slot 15 at one end of a hollow, downwardly open extension 6 of the cover, when the seat, cover and mountings are assembled into a unit with pivot pins 14 and 13 engaging blind holes 7 and 5 respectively. A locking pin is provided in the extension to project through a hole 16 in the slot 15 to retain the appropriate pin 14.
