719,361. Railway rail fastenings. RIEDENER, F. Dec. 17, 1952, [Jan. 15, 1952.] No. 32047/52. Class 104 (2) In a railway rail fastening in which the rail base A is guided between ribs 2 of a support i and is held down by clamps 12 bridging the ribs 2 with one leg 13 bearing on the base A and the other leg 14 on the support 1 and bolts 9 extending upwardly from the support i the bearing surface 8a of the bolt 9 and the bearing surfaces 13a and 15a of the clamp legs 13, 14 are rounded about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rails. The surface 8a may also be rounded about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rail to allow lengthwise flexion of the rail. The distance between the bolt axis and the surface 15a is greater than the distance between the surface 13a and the bolt axis. The lengths of the arms 13, 14 are such that the top of the clamp 12 is initially inclined downwardly away from the rail. The surface 15a may be located in a similarly rounded recess formed in the support 1. The bolt nut 10 is locked by means of a spring washer 11 provided with a downwardly offset extension 11a which bears against the side wall of the clamp 12. The portion of the shank of the bolt 9 disposed between the ribs 2 may be of square section to prevent excessive canting.
