Abstract

693,585. Securing railway rails. TOLEDO WOODHEAD SPRINGS, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1951. [Nov. 3, 1950] No. 26832/50. Class 104 (ii). A railway rail securing spring clip 10 is formed as an arch with a foot 11, 12 at each end thereof and each foot has a thickness not exceeding the material thickness and a flat pressure surface of a length at least twice the material thickness and is formed at opposite ends with a definite heel and toe. The feet, 11, 12 may face outward, or inward, or one foot outward and the other inward. Each foot 11, 12 thickens at 13, 14 from the toe towards the body and initially the toe of each foot makes contact with the rails so as to leave a clearance of about inch between each heel 30, 31 and the rail to be taken up when a nut 32 is tightened. One foot 12 rests in a pocket 28 of a soleplate 27 and against an abutment 28a so that any spreading of the clip 10 under tightening will be by the foot 11 sliding along the rail flange 29. The top of the clip may be ribbed as at 16. Two clips may be used one on each side of the rail. Fig. 13 (not shown), or one clip on one side of the rail flange 35 with the other side of the rail flange fitting in a locating lug of a soleplate, Fig. 14 (not shown).
