Abstract

837,264. Securing railway rails to sleepers. FOGELBERG, T. I. S. Aug. 7, 1958, No. 25287/58. Class 104 (2). In a railway sleeper having a tube 7 lined aperture for a pin 6 which protrudes on each lateral face of the sleeper 1 to provide an anchor for a resilient clamp 5 engaging the upper surface of both rail flanges 3a and the lower surface of the projecting pin portions the inner surface of the tube 7 is convexly curved at 7b near its ends 7a or throughout its length to prevent concentration of pressure at its ends. The pin 6 is covered between its projecting end portions with an electrically insulating layer 8 of fabric-base phenolic resin or similar material. The rail 3 is seated on a rubber or similar electrically insulating pad 4 accommodated in a recess in the sleeper 1. The tube 7 may alternatively have a continuously curved longitudinal central axis conforming to the pin 6 when under stress. Specification 706,056 is referred to.
