Abstract
718,677. Tents. FRIEDER, L. P. Nov. 17, 1952 [July 3, 1952], No. 28902/52. Class 20 (1) A shelter comprises a pair of front columns 10, Fig. 1, a pair of rear columns, a catenary cable 24 carried by and extending between the' front columns, a similar cable 26 carried by and extending between the rear columns, a pair of intermediate roof trusses 40 supported by the cables, and a covering 110 carried by the roof trusses. Each corner column 10 comprises three metal tubes 12, 14, 16 secured in triangular position by plates 18, 20, 22, the cables being secured on the tubes 16 which are higher than the others 12, 14. The cables carry shoes 36, which form the ends of demountable crescent trusses 40 which may be formed as in Specification 690,658, and they also carry tubular compression members 50 which have a plurality of discs therein, apertured to pass the. cables. End crescent trusses 54, which each consist of a rigid sectional member 58 and a flexible member 56 tied thereto by members 60, are floatingly carried by the tubes 12. The members 58 are supported at each end by a shoe 76, Fig. 6, resting upon the top of member 12 and secured by a bolt 86 passing through the slotted threaded plug 78 and the slotted top member 82 of the column. A lever 92 pivoted at 90 to the shoe 76 bears at one end 94 against post 12 and at the other end carries a wire 98 which supports the side curtain 62. Aluminium or plastic T-sectioned purlins 64 extend between the trusses being secured by bolts to transverse members carried by the rigid members 38, 58 of the trusses. Guy ropes 28, 30 secured to each tube 16 lie in the same plane as the corresponding.catenary cable and end truss 54 respectively and bracing wires 102, 104, 106, 108 are secured between the tubes 16 and the centres of the intermediate roof trusses 40. Transverse curtain wires 100 carry the front and back curtains and the roof covering 110 may be provided with tapes for tying around the purlins 64. Specification 659,774 also is referred to.
